The challenge of running this magazine single-handedly for the most part of Chaud’s year well , It’s only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It’s only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness. Beauty, truth, awesomeness. That’s all it is.” Wow! Quoting Kanye! It has been a year since the first issue of Chaud was published for the world to see.
Please step into my mind for a minute or five depending on how long it will take you to read this and just enjoy my inner thoughts, mini rants and appreciations.
1. Music
I’m currently addicted to Crooked Smile by J.Cole and
Grown Woman – Beyonce Gisele Knowles-Carter and Ismael “Bonfils” Kouyaté. Thanks to these two Grown Woman is my new no-form-of-decorum-when-this-song-plays.
2. Huge Egos
Jay-Z is dropping Magna Carta Holy Grail (MCHG), Kanye West – dropped his album, Wale dropped his album, Jose Mourinho aka The Chosen One is back at Chelsea. I am drawn to men with huge egos(with a backing diverse portfolio of course), no this is not a Beyonce subliminal but that too never hurt nobody *coughs* . I do understand that a huge ego and douchebagery are sometimes fraternal twins but sometimes it is acceptable to think of your work as awesomessness, or as the magna carta for those who come after your Throne, or your management skills because you have EARNED it. However humbleness goes a long way and people like you more when you’re not saying to them ‘Awesomeness is I’.
3. The Haves and Have Nots
This show is like watching Sunset Beach or the Young and the Restless version of Scandal. I watch because of some unknown allegiance that I pledged to supporting Tika Sumpter and Oprah.
4. Nelson Mandela
If there are dreams about a beautiful South Africa, there are also roads that lead to their goal. Two of these roads could be named Goodness and Forgiveness.
Used to sing that above song with such vigour and demand! I remember that February day in 1990, my parents had a ‘release party’ (child of political parents) and this Hugh Masekela joint was played. A recent talk with my dad resulted in him using the above quote and to him Mandela is the epitome of forgiveness! Ever thought of going to prison for wanting what is rightfully yours? And 27 years for that? I will not get political or go into a rant.
The eulogies on Twitter before we know if the man is dead really have me riled up! And to all those writing ‘Don’t pray for him, remember his legacy’ – Bruuu it’s easy for you to say that because he is no kin of yours right?Trust and believe when my grand-dad passed on at the age of 92 – I cried and I was hurt. Same applies to a terminally ill person – yes we know the end is nigh, BUT that lack of sensitivity when it doesn’t affect you personally irks me.
Idris Elba is to play Nelson Mandela?!? Cue the most awful South African accent tried ever!
Madiba, my heart truly adores you!
