Vimbai Mukori: Neurodiversity Assessor & Speaker

Dear 2024,

As I step into the new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on my journey as a neurodiversity speaker and assessor. The past year has been full of meaningful experiences that have shaped my understanding of how we all think and learn differently.

I’ve had the chance to work with and represent individuals who experience the world in unique ways. Reflecting on this year, several meaningful moments stand out that have shaped my journey personally and professionally:

I am firm in my belief that when communicating, acknowledging each person’s unique experience enables deeper connections and fosters respect. As a very opinionated and talkative person, I have learnt to confront the ideology that I am the expert when engaging with clients, by doing so I give myself the opportunity to gain a fresh perspective. Even though I have been in my profession for over 10 years, I am currently listening to audio books on active listening to further develop that skill.

I also hold a continued appreciation for ongoing professional development through participating in training and networking events, as these have been essential for creating collaborative opportunities.

I have also had some challenging experiences, reflections and conversations. Each experience, whether difficult or uplifting, has contributed to my understanding of myself or others. I have developed my ability to adjust how I say things or work with others. I have also been able to relate to some of the stories shared in a very personal way. There have been many moments for self-reflection. It has also empowered me to seek support with my own neurodivergent profile.

Looking ahead, I’m eager to continue amplifying the voices of neurodivergent individuals. I plan to collaborate with educators and employers and I’m excited to keep working towards being in environments where everyone can feel valued and respected.

To summarise my main lessons

  • If you’re not sure just listen and ask for clarification
  • Never stop learning
  • Collaborate with others
  • Reflect on the challenges

Here’s to 2024—a year for growth, understanding, and ongoing support for everyone. Let’s celebrate our differences and work together for a brighter, inclusive future.

With hope,

Vimbai Mukori
